This wonderful WSJ article by Anne Marie Chaker illustrates how important the kitchen island has become to home renovation projects in recent years. The island has evolved from additional counter space in the kitchen to the command center of the household. It is where the family eats breakfast, cooks meals and does homework. It can be outfitted with electronics and appliances that provide convenience and ease of use. Examples of island features are instant hot dispensers, in counter steamers and switches for lighting and shade control.
